A new Assistant Professor appears!

After what I can only describe as a marathon on the job market, I am thrilled to announce that I have accepted a joint tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment between the School of Computing and Entertainment Arts & Engineering program at the University of Utah! I will be coming in for the 2017 academic Fall semester.

At Utah I am joining a fantastic cohort of computing researchers and entertainment arts & engineering scholars. The EAE program has dominated the Princeton Review Rankings for Game Design Schools since their inception in 2015, and Utah's School of Computing has a very distinguished history; it was one of the original four nodes of ARPANET and has made significant contributions to computer graphics and animation. I'll be looking to establish a research program at the intersection of artificial intelligence, games, design, and cognition. I'm super excited!

As soon as I get settled (a euphemism for "coordinating a move while finishing my degree"), I'll be sure to write more about the entire process: from beginning the Ph.D. degree to navigating the job market (especially because so many academics I know and/or admire have written about this). I'll also write about why I decided to join a School where my Ph.D. adviser decided to move, which I'm sure you are very curious about (and for which there is apparently no blog post on the internet).

Go Utes!
